Sega fecha Racing Studio

It was rumored earlier today that Sega would be closing down its Sega Racing Studio. However, Sega has confirmed with Next Generation that the bad news is indeed true.

“Regrettably Sega today announced that it is to commence consultation regarding the unfortunate closure of the Sega Racing Studio in Birmingham, UK.

“The decision is part of a review of Sega’s Western Development Studios to ensure that each studio is a profitable entity in its own right, and unfortunately the Sega Racing Studio’s 5 year plan would not result in a successful return for the Sega business moving forward. Sega would like to stress that there will be no changes within their other internal development studios.”

So while it appears every other studio is safe for the time being, it’s probably safe to say everyone is on notice that they must deliver profitable titles or else.

a sega justifica que eles fizeram apenas um jogo em 1 em 2 anos mais prá mim foi as vendas do jogo que não foram muito boas ,mancada da sega fechar um studio tão bom como esse. maldito capitalismo!

Um dos problemas que Sega Rally Revo foi lançado com diferença de 1 mes do maior concorrente (e mais popular) Dirty.

Quer dizer, querer concorrer com a serie de corridas de rally mais popular é complicado, não sei onde fica o interesse de lançar assim com datas tão proximas, ja que hoje pelo menos (no PS3) esta ha um bom tempo que não vejo lançamento de um bom game de corrida. Talvez lançando mais pra frente (tendo tempo pra dar uma polida melhor no jogo) o jogo poderia ter vendido mais pois os holofotes estariam voltados so pra ele, especiamente no primeiro trimestre desse ano que achei fraquinho de lançamentos.

A Codemasters salvou o Racing Studio! Direto do Kotaku:

The news that Codemasters has reached an agreement to take control of the recently closed Sega Racing Studio in Solihull England is much more exciting if you think of it in terms of an adventure romance film. Three years ago Codemasters employees, along with some from Rare, Criterion, and Rockstar, were lured away to Sega Racing Studio by the promises of new racing IP adventures and fabulous treasures. Three years later the studio steps into quicksand and Sega is too uncaring to help, leaving them sinking, hands raised above their heads as the quicksand slowy obscures their vision. Then, at the last moment, a hand reaches down and grabs the studio's wrist pulling them free of the mire...it's Codemasters! They never stopped loving their wayward employees. Cue Peter Cetera's "For The Glory Of Love" as they hug. Not a dry eye in the house.

"In seizing this opportunity, we have created additional resources to escalate our plans in the racing segment," said Rod Cousens, chief executive, Codemasters. "We hope to welcome more than 40 people to the company and we have enjoyed the full co-operation of our friends at Sega in making this happen.

I suppose saying it that way works as well.

é ,eu tinha visto isso.O estudio não foi fechado ,e sim passado prá Codemasters,algo parecido com o que aconteceu com a visual concept que foi passada prá take 2 quando a sega saiu dos hardwares.
