English: Basically, some people are saying on smspower that 1mbit tec toy games do not work on early SMS1 models. I don't know if this is true as most people seem to post things and not verify them. For example, Action Replay will work fine on any Master System model I have tried. It works perfectly fine on an American System, however, if the controller port pins are in need of care it is very picky about the games it will load. If you remember to disconnect your controllers after play you will not have this problem.

Well... two year ago, one of our friends made a test involving Street Fighter 2 and Sonic Blast and one Master System 1 (TecToy), and Sonic Blast work perfectly, but SF2 no...
Take a look:
http://www.sega-brasil.com.br/forum/vie ... r+master+1

According our knoledge, the Master System 1 by TecToy is very similar than american SMS, so, if Picapau Amarelo run on MS1 will sure run on american SMS.

Or am I wrong :? Where is Corredor X when we need him :x ? <oldlol> <oldlol> <oldlol>

EDIT:
Xisto, você que lembra das coisas mais esquecidas aqui do forum, sabe se alguém fez algum teste desses com a Picapau Amarelo?

I have the earliest known BIOS. The one that includes no game. Was this ever released in Brasil? If so, can any one test these two games? I can probably find another v2.4 BIOS SMS1 (they were easy to find here in states, it's the most common model).

Wow  Is a rare item  No, here the first version of Master System comes with Hang-on and Safary Hunt buil-in game... Just a few members here have a american SMS, and no one have a SMS like this you said

Ok ok, maybe Ricardo Wilmers have one (he is one of the most famous Master System collectors of Brazil), but, maybe maybe... I think he never heared about this Master System you said <oldlol>

The funny thing is I had two. The one broke. The difference besides no game, according to SMSPower documents is that this original v1.3 BIOS has proper checksum code, in v2.4 (which is what every one else uses) a part is broken. So, technically v1.3 is superior to v2.4 code.

Hummm... good to know <geek> Have any more differences? Like start screen, start sound, image, power supply...?

This really should go into it's own topic at some point but here's how it all started.

I had a v2.4 with Hang-On/Safari Hunt originally. I had Pro Action Replay (PAR) I always used with it. After some time the controller wire had to be in certain spot for it to work properly. I fixed solder on controller port on SMS1 motherboard and it worked good except PAR no longer worked properly. I tried many things, cleaning, all sorts. Then I borrowed an SMS from a friend and the PAR worked perfect.

I purchased two untested SMS1 on ebay for $20 USD. They both powered on and worked fine, they were the v1.3 with no game. Weird, because I have never seen this before. I went on SMS and found that this does exist. When I open up v1.3 to do S-Video modification and 50hz/60hz modification I found that there is a different S**y video chip (very close to CXA1145, the pinouts are slightly different but the chip is basically the same!) and instead of buttons for pause and reset on the motherboard it is two pieces of thin copper that push together to toggle the switch!

There may be other slight differences but I am unsure.

The start screen, sound, image, power supply are all same. It does the same SEGA sound like v2.4.

My personal theory on this, is because the v1.3 has no checksum range bug like v2.4 does it would have a better chance of playing Tec Toy 1mbit cartridge. I will not know for another week and I hope some one here has american console to let me know if this is true.

I agree. I ended my read at SMS Power article you showed. I can't found any evidence that corroborate with theory of SMS1 can't run Picapau Amarelo :( All things indicate the SMS1, including SMS 1.3v, will have no problem to do this.

I guess the great villain in this history, is the mapper used in Picapau Amarelo... mappers usually causes some erros, so, if the mapper used in PA is the same of used in SF2, probaly you will enconter problems...
But, if this game run in any Master System brazilian model without any problem, I think again your SMS systems will have no problem to work with.

Anyway, to be sure about this, you'll have to wait one more week <oldlol> Sorry for you friend <oldlol>

To further complicate it. I downloaded all the BIOS available at the site and tried each one in Fusion emulator. Sonic Blast and Sitio booted each time without problems. Are Hang-On/Safari Hunt BIOS in Brasil internationalized. That is, do Safari Hunt and Hang On have text in portuguese? If so, the BIOS could be slightly modified, but somehow I doubt there should be any CODE difference.

I get a feeling someone had an SMS1 that had a loose solder joint or something silly and the game would not boot for them and they tried it in their SMS2 and it worked and they blame it on SMS1. I have not seen good evidence to suggest otherwise. The same with a PAR. Many people on english sites say PAR will not work right on American SMS but this is bullshit. All games work on it just fine. I know of three games that will not work properly if not running at 50hz but nothing else and a 50hz switch is very easy to do.

To make it more interesting! SMS2 BIOS has v1.3 code!

"Its checksumming routines seem to be taken from the US/European Master System BIOS v1.3 - they do not feature any of the later changes, and the $2 checksum range bug is not found.

It is worth noting that this BIOS was only featured in Master System II systems which have no card or expansion slots; but it attempts to check them anyway. "

Sorry for so much text... But, I think in a week I will find out that this 1mbit Tec Toy thing was myth.
