Terminei aqui.
Para antigos fãs do jogo, acostumados com as, digamos, idiosincrasias no seu design, é uma delícia. Arte linda, trilha sonora fechou bem.
Mas mantendo fiel a esses detalhes e não fazendo algumas correções contemporâneas que seriam bem vindas pro jogo, certamente esse remake vai ser massacrado na crítica e, consequentemente, não deve ir bem comercialmente. O que é péssimo, pois manda o recado errado pra Sega de que franquias antigas não devem ser revisitadas. Uma pena.

Eu faria hit boxes mais amigáveis. Acho que até o contrário aconteceu, tive a impressão de alguns inimigos terem a hit box um pouco ampliada. Eu morri MUITAS vezes - entre 20 e 30 -, sendo que costumo terminar o original sem continue.
Tem algumas pequenas coisas estranhas, que na verdade até pioraram. Em geral é um pouco mais difícil nadar. Se o Alex tá encostado de costas em alguma superfície, você não consegue virar de frente e socar. Você tem que dar um espaço entre a superfície e então virar.
Fora isso, algumas bobagens. O jogo te dá opção de vida infinita, mas não é isso, é continue infinito - você perde o progresso da fase e dinheiro. Não dá pra salvar. A versão retrô é um desastre, principalmente na parte sonora. Parece a pior emulação possível de Master System.
Enfim, acho que isso tudo atrapalha bastante o produto final. Não é nem de perto a lindeza que foi o remake de Wonder Boy 3, por exemplo. Mas pela nostalgia nossa, óbvio que vale a pena

Na verdade o lance da vida infinita não é assim como você falou não. O jogo por padrão tem continues infinitos, com 3 vidas cada (não é como no Master onde só tinha 1 continue e pra pegar mais precisava de dinheiro e fazer um comando na tela de game over). Aqui você pode perder as 3 vidas, selecionar "tentar novamente" e voltar do começo da fase quantas vezes quiser (assim como no Master, onde ao usar um continue você voltava do começo da fase). Nas opções há uma de "vidas infinitas" onde de fato são vidas infinitas, você pode morrer quantas vezes quiser e sempre volta do último checkpoint por onde passou, não volta do começo da fase.
Isso de não conseguir virar eu notei também. Se você cair junto a um bloco, de costas pra ele, não consegue virar pra dar um soco, precisa se afastar um pouco para aí sim conseguir virar. Eles devem corrigir isso em algum patch.
Uma coisa que eu notei é que tem opção de deixar o jogo em português brasileiro, mas traduziram usando o Google Tradutor aparentemente. Quando você pausa, tem uma opção "currículo do jogo". Eu fiquei olhando um tempão tentando entender que raios seria aquilo, achei que "currículo" fosse alguma tela de estatísticas sobre o jogo, com o tempo gasto, vidas usadas, sei lá, mas ao selecionar isso, simplesmente fecha a tela de pausa e continua o jogo. Só aí eu resolvi "pensar ao contrário", de como seria essa opção no original, e lembrei que em inglês "resume" pode ser tanto "continuar" quanto... "currículo". Ou seja, na verdade aquilo ali era originalmente um "Resume game", que seria "Continuar jogo", mas traduziram como "Currículo do jogo"

Eu testei o demo e percebi o lance de não conseguir virar também, é esquisito pra gente que tá acostumado com o jogo antigo. E eu joguei no PC e percebi as cores estouradas, como se tivessem com a saturação no máximo, principalmente o amarelo, inclusive vi isso em vídeos no youtube, vocês perceberam?

Bom, que a saturação é alta, é. Mas não acho errado, tá mais pra escolha artistica - até porque o original é super saturado, principalmente no céu.

Fora os gráficos e as músicas novas, é exatamente o mesmo jogo do Master System, com a mesma física, mesma dificuldade (alta), etc. Só mudaram mesmo os chefes, que na versão original eram bem fáceis e agora têm uns ataques mais elaborados. Fora isso, quem estava acostumado com a versão da década de 80 estará totalmente familiarizado com o remake.
E pelo menos agora o final tem alguma coisa mais digamos... gráfica:
